Backer Update #13: Office Tour, Print Assemblies, and Winding Keys
almost 6 years ago – Fri, May 25, 2018 at 12:22:27 AM

Hello Squares!

Let's take a look at the office and production facility for NuBox.

I'll go over how I keep my sanity, the printers I use and the uses for each, and talk a little about my design and assembly process. I'll finish up by sharing with you a little engineering solution I came up with to make better winding knobs for you!

How exciting!?!

Cheers,

Rob

Backer Update #12: Production Notes and a "Q" for you in the video.
about 6 years ago – Sun, Apr 29, 2018 at 02:00:54 AM

 Hello Squares,

It has been really busy. April marks the start of my wedding season. For those who don't know, I'm a full time wedding photographer.

April has been all about reviewing the final designs created for the Kickstarter. This means updating and improving on the prototype units. I've left them out in the sun, rain, hot, and cold. I've been testing the shutter mechanisms with the new DLP process and looking for weaknesses to improve. I've actually had the most difficulty with the DLP print process- I'm having a hard time getting the resin settings just right for how I want to use the parts. This has been very frustrating to me. However, difficulties in one area have lead to improvements in others.

I recently had a really interesting idea for a "bolt-action" shutter and blackslide design. I think it's pretty cool. If you would like to know more about that, please check out the video. I also ask your thoughts. SO give it a listen and let me know what you think.

George has been hard at work creating the designs for the shipping and retail boxes. I'm really excited to give you a sneak peak sometime soon. Please be sure to follow me on Instagram @TheBoxIsBack.

Several very thoughtful backers have reached out to say hi and get to know one another. I appreciate this. Thank you for your thoughts and pick-me-ups - they've been very well received.

That ends it for this one. You guys are great. Thanks' for bringing the box back.

Cheers!

Rob

Last call for order updates!
about 6 years ago – Fri, Apr 13, 2018 at 08:56:10 PM

Hey Squares!

The last day to make final updates to your order is April 18, 2018. After this date, we will lock your reward selections and charge cards for add-on item purchases, pledge upgrades, and pre-orders. You can update your shipping address up until we lock addresses for shipping.

Please note that those who purchased add-ons through PayPal checkout have already be charged, and will only have their orders locked down.

Backers who used the Stripe Checkout have not yet been charged, and will be charged on or after April 18.

If you haven’t answered your survey yet, if you fill out your BackerKit survey or pay for extra shipping (where applicable) after the April 18, 2018 order due date, we’ll still receive your information, but your shipment may be delayed.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://theboxisback.backerkit.com.

THANK YOU!

Thank you all again for being so responsive to answering our BackerKit survey—even though it may not seem like much as an individual backer, you have no idea how tremendously helpful this has been for me when trying to keep track of all 237 of you!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Cheers,

Rob

Backer Update #11: Challenge Coins are in, Developer Preview Update, and I've Been Sick!
about 6 years ago – Thu, Mar 29, 2018 at 01:38:11 AM

Hello Squares!

Hope all is well. In this update I am excited to share with you the Hamm Camera Company Challenge coins- they just came in and are awesome! You will also get a nice look at the HCC patch which arrived last week.

I also go over what's been happening over the past month, the developer preview timeline, and my health. For those that can't watch the video right now, here's the TLDR: Funding came in a little later than expected. Then it took some time to get all the printer's in (the final printer just arrived yesterday). I've got to troubleshoot and tune each printer. Some required upgraded parts, others required different print materials than anticipated. It;s all been going well, but I have been sick for two separate weeks during march, and for 10 days in February.

This has delayed the dev preview, but it should not impact the shipping forecast for end of July. The reality is that we just keep moving forward. I've got to build an enclosure to make sure I don't let toxic fumes into the home (which is something I had not anticipated), but once that is done, It should be smooth sailing from there on out.

In the end, this is just the things that happen with production, and I am happy to share with you the status of the project and keep you informed. Besides, it cant be perfect all the time, right?

Improvise, adapt, and overcome! That's what I'm doing here. Hope you enjoy the update. Thanks for watching and bringing the box back!

 Cheers,

 Rob

Backer Update #10: VAT/Customs, Items in the Backer Store, & How It's Going.
about 6 years ago – Wed, Mar 21, 2018 at 12:12:55 AM

 Hello Squares,

Lot's of great stuff is happening in Hamm Camera-Land. I've been setting up and tuning the printers (its taking a little longer than I thought, but nothing that would impact shipping).

I have received some great shirts in for previewing. The look good. A few adjustments need to be made to the Tee-shirts, but that's why I ordered some early in the first place.

The Patches and challenge coins are in production. This is pretty exciting. Its a lot of fun to see these special branding items coming to life.

I have update the Camera Strap Adapter to be more versatile and useful. It now offers strap eyelets on all four sides so you can decide how to lace up the strap.

The wide angle lens cartridge is available. It offers about a 30mm FOV equivalent in 35mm speak. I like it a lot. This adapter works best at apertures of 16 and smaller. It creates some really interesting images at f5.6 and f8.

My son has a birthday coming up soon, and I look forward to taking a couple days off and recharging. I've been going non-stop for too long... I'm starting to get tired. I can't help it though... I'm just so excited about all of this. I can't hardly sleep.

Interestingly, some backers have commented that I seem to always be awake. this is because they may have sent me an email at 03:00 my time and I responded.

Just so you know... here are my hours: 1300-0230 Eastern Daylight Time: I will answer emails and be available for conversation. These are my normal working hours. Between 0800 and 1300 I teach homeschool classes for my son. These hours are "no response hours", as I'm sure you can understand why.

Now you know.

Cheers,

Rob
